Second Leg of Dialog Schools Rugby Development 7s Kicks-off on 12th March

With the successful conclusion of the first leg of the Dialog Schools Rugby Development 7s Under - 14 tourney, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and premier connectivity provider Dialog Axiata PLC, will kick the second leg of the tourney on the 12th of March 2022 at Trinity College Rugby Stadium, Pallekale, Kandy from 8.30am onwards.

In the inaugural Dialog Schools Rugby Development 7s Under - 14 tourney which was the first time such a tournament was played in Sri Lanka, Kularathna Central College, Godakawela – Rathnapura, emerged overall champions by beating Swarna Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle on a higher aggregate score.

The Dialog Schools Rugby Development 7s 2022 tourney will be played in accordance with the safety guidelines administered by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education. The players will be in a bio secure environment, overseen by their respective schools, with rapid antigen tests to be conducted at regular intervals.

The U-14 school teams that have confirmed their participation for the tournament on the 12th from the North Western Province include, Athugalpura Kumara National School, Aswedhdhuma Vidyalaya, Sri Saranankara Sanghraja MV, Defense Services School, Sri Nishanka MV, Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya, Boyagane MV, Zahira Model MV and Wayamba CWW Kannangara MV.

Schools that have confirmed from the Central Province include, Nawalapitiya Central College, Rangiri Dambullu National School, Hendganawa MV, Galewela Central College, Al- Madina National School, Kurudhuwaththa Royal College, Gamini Central College and Hewahetta MMV.

While Dambarawa MV, Kendagolla Secondary School, Giradhurukotte MMV, Bandaranayaka MMV, Haddaththawa National School, Andaulpatha Natioanal School and Kuttiyagolla MV have confirmed their participation representing the Uva Province.

“The first leg of the Inaugural U-14 Dialog Schools Rugby Development 7s was an immensely successful tourney that took the sport to the rural areas of Sri Lanka, Nirodha Wijerama, General Secretary, SLSRFA said. “The second leg of the same tourney is an extension to that commitment by our sponsors Dialog Axiata PLC, as we envision to identify and develop untapped talent from nontraditional rugby playing schools of Sri Lanka.”
